Black Friday in France - statistics & facts

Beginning as the most active shopping day of the year in the United States, Black Friday, which takes place on the Friday right after Thanksgiving, has become one of the most popular shopping occasions around the globe. As a matter of fact, in the last few years, Black Friday and Cyber Monday have also gained popularity in other areas of the world like Europe. Here, online searches for Black Friday from countries like Germany and the United Kingdom reached a share of over 10 percent of worldwide searches, as of 2021.

Black Friday in France

Despite the impact of inflation, and thus the rapidly increasing cost of living, many French consumers are still reluctant to reduce their Black Friday and Christmas spending in 2022. According to a recent survey, Gen Z seems to be the generation most interested in making purchases during Black Friday and Cyber Monday 2022, followed by Millennials. Further survey results also showed that, in that year, over 80 percent of French shoppers planned to buy something for themselves during this event.

Online shopping

As e-commerce becomes increasingly popular, French consumers are also expected to do most of their Black Friday and Cyber Monday shopping online in 2022. Younger generations, such as Gen Z and Millennials, planned to shop online more than in the previous year. On this subject, electronics was the leading product category that shoppers in France planned to purchase online that year, followed by erotic materials and toys. The year before, Amazon, Cdiscount, and Darty were the most searched e-commerce retailers in France during Black Friday.
